What is the difference between Pending and Confirmed points?

If you dine at a restaurant having booked it online SquareMeal you are rewarded with SquareMeal points.

At the point of making the booking you are allocated points which are 'pending'. You can not spend these points until they have been confirmed after the date of your booking - the restaurant gives us confirmation that you have dined at the restaurant.
